If a courier used a horse to deliver your parcel, would you use that courier? Probably not.
In building, software is probably not the first thing that comes to mind However, it could be one of the most important topics you ever discuss with your potential builder.
Times have changed, the construction industry is evolving every day with changes in legislation and the requirements that arise thereof. If you take one look at the latest edition of the Rawlinson’s Guide (A guide that shows quarterly movement in trade and material pricing) you will see that pricing in the constructions industry moves far too regularly. As builders, it is becoming almost impossible to stay up to date with all of these important issues with “old school” methods. This is where the importance of construction software has become a fundamental element of the construction process.
From the perspective of the client, it is critical that the client asks how their builders stay on top of their business and their construction sites. What software they are using to program the scheduling of their jobs? How they undertake take-offs (measure their quantities) and how they stay-on-top and ahead of all changes in the construction industry?
At Dominate Building, we see our investment in software as our point of difference to some other builders. By employing the latest project management and estimating software we are able to stay up to date with the latest rates for our industry and liaise with our clients in a way which is completely transparent. We keep our most valuable asset, our clients, constantly in the loop throughout the project and inform them when decisions need to be made to keep the project on track. For our business, it simply would be a completely false economy to not have our suite of software in place.

Whilst you would not employ a builder purely because they have taken the latest software onboard, it should be taken into consideration when deciding on your builder. Unless you like your mail delivered slowly, builders that deem it unnecessary to have best practice software in place should be approached and considered with caution.
