1. Blue is the new grey
Goodbye grey, hello blue! You heard it here first. We didn’t think it would happen, but it has. At Dominate Building we thrive to stay on top of current colour trends and if you don’t believe us, checkout Pantone. To be fair, we did suspect the Pantone Colour of the Year 2020 was going to be blue. Blue is bold, yet elegant in its simplicity. It’s also a very easy colour to incorporate into the home.

2. Dark painted doors
Have you noticed when inspecting a home, you often find a unique bold door? Did it get your attention? It’s definitely a statement piece of your home’s exterior or interior. This is a trend that is growing and we predict it will stick around for quite a while.

3. Marble
The striking veins on marble still seem to be a winner in the interior design world. Whether a small object or a whole marble wall, it will absolutely add impact and timelessness to your interior. Investing even in a small piece made of marble can add value to your home.
4. Crittall-style windows
Just because you have an unusual or awkward space, don’t think it can’t be fitted with metal frames. Here at Dominate Building, we specialise in luxury custom homes. We are now seeing crittal-style windows used not just as windows and doors, but for extensions, room dividers and even shower screens.
We can absolutely see why they are such a popular trend. They look amazing and luxurious, while taping into the industrial trend that’s still going strong. They can also bring an incredible amount of light into a space. Who doesn’t want that?!
5. Concealed Kitchens
You may have already had the idea to disguise a pantry behind an integrated cabinet door or integrate your fridge into a kitchen unit, but have you considered concealing your entire kitchen? That’s right; it’s a thing now, and it’s becoming a huge design trend.
With living spaces getting smaller and storage design becoming smarter and more clean, minimalist kitchens are becoming increasingly popular. They are great for creating a streamlined look in a contemporary kitchen too.
6. Bathroom fun
There has been an increased demand for colour finishes in the interior world, which means we can anticipate a colour wave with bathroom products and designs in 2020. Homeowners are feeling more bold and braver in their designs and are looking with a particular interest for colours that evoke emotion in the bathroom.

7. Plants, plants and more real plants – Biophilic design
As the digital world becomes more a part of our lives, humans are feeling the need to connect to nature more and more. The modern world sees us spending more time than ever indoors, losing our connection with the natural world.
One way to counteract this excessive indoor time is to incorporate plants into our home environments – this can promote creativity and productivity, reduce stress and enhance our health and wellbeing.

8. Curves
When you think of curves, do you feel like they are associated with softness? Have you noticed how rounded shapes on furniture can look comfortable and inviting? This quickly creates an atmosphere of calmness and is probably why it’s still popular and trending within the interior design industry.
Furniture with curved shapes and rounded corners can be used in modern interiors to create a calm environment that you’ll be glad to come home to after a busy day.
9. Neon
Neon signs and lighting are trending right now, and we can certainly see why. These can be fun to use, add character to your home and can make certain areas look sophisticated – like your bathroom mirror. This trend will definitely lighten up your space!
10. Texture
2020 trends aren’t just all about colour – we’re seeing texture increasingly being used to add interest to rooms as well, particularly by way of layering up different textures in the same, or very similar colours. In a living room, cushions and blankets are an obvious way of doing this but in other rooms, you can bring texture in with plants, artwork or even walls.
